Scripture: John 9
Key points to ponder: 1) God sometimes allows His children to go through hardship so that they can experience God’s mercy and love through deliverance from their suffering. God knows that the suffering is worth it because of the ultimate reward of believing (v. 3). 2) God listens to those who worship Him and do His will (v. 31). 3) Jesus heals a man of his blindness and lets him see! This miracle and the others throughout John are intended by Jesus to help people believe in Him as the Son of God - and the previously blind man did! (v. 38).
Challenging terms: What Jesus says in verse 4 refers to His earthly ministry; Jesus is very aware of the urgent nature of His need to fulfill all that the Father sent Him to accomplish during his earthly ministry. “Those who do not see” in verse 39 refers to those who do not know about God’s word.
Question: What is an area of your life that is painful and allows you to experience God’s mercy and love?
Prayer: Father, thank you for revealing your nature to us through these miracles and signs. We praise you because you are powerful in your love for us.
Consider praying with an open heart. Pour out your thoughts and feelings to God about things that are painful in your life and places you seek to experience His mercy and love. He cares about each of these painful places and wants to hear them from you.
