Scripture: John 10

Key points to ponder: 1) The only way for us to be a part of God’s Kingdom and enjoy His promises is through Jesus (v. 9) who ensures this promise of salvation ultimately by laying down His life on the cross (vv. 15, 17). When we believe in Jesus, no one can separate us from Him and His offering of salvation because God is greater than all else (v. 29). 2) Jesus’ life is not taken from Him when He dies on the cross. He gives it up freely and rises again on His own will because He has authority over life and death (v. 18). 3) Jesus and God are one entity (vv. 30, 38). 

Challenging terms: “Door of the sheep” refers to Jesus, who is the only way by which one becomes a part of the people of God (v. 7). “Thieves and robbers” refers to those that Satan uses to try and lure people away from the truth of God’s Word (vv. 8, 29).   

Question: Which of Jesus’ claims in this passage feel difficult to understand or believe? 

Prayer: Lord, thank you for inviting us into an intimate relationship with you even with all our questions and disbelief. Thank you that we can be confident You will grow in us a deeper understanding of who You are, as well as a belief in what You have done for us.
